Thankful… for my father-in-law

My father-in-law comes back once every few months. Not only will he buy back a lot of food, but the first thing he does in the morning is to go to the market, then come back and start preparing lunch for all of us. He will get my sis-in-laws to come over to eat and he is happiest watching the whole family have a meal together.

Besides making sure that the kids have enough to eat, he will also ask about their schooling. He will enquire if they are doing well in school and if they are putting in effort in their school work. He also gives them big rewards for doing well in their exams as he says that we should give them some motivation. He firmly believes in a good education for the kids as he himself holds a Masters in Engineering! That is really impressive for his generation.

Not only has he given us a roof over our heads (and a very nice one at that), but he is even willing to help out with the costs of the kids’ tertiary education if need be. I have learnt from him how asians show their love through providing for their families even though they don’t say much. We have a lot to be thankful for.
