Poolside Grill @ Marriot Hotel

It was nice that the kids had a day off from school on the 4th day of CNY, in lieu of Saturday. As we were done with the visiting, I was able to spend the day out with #1. She wanted to go shopping, and asked if I was free to accompany her. I had to meet some friends for breakfast first, so she tagged along. I realised it’s been more than a year since I had spent an entire day with her alone, ever since Kate was born, as I was so busy and was also not very mobile.

I haven’t walked like that in a long time and was exhausted after a couple of hours shopping. I needed to sit and rest so we had an early dinner. I decided to pamper her with a nice meal as she’s starting to appreciate good food and good presentation. We decided to try the Poolside Grill at Marriot Hotel. I also needed some peace and tranquility after the past few days of full on socialising!

Lovely warm bread

For starters, we ordered the soup of the day, which was Mushroom soup, and the Tuna tartare, which is one of my favourite appetisers. Both turned out yummy! Their service was very good and they even asked if the soup was to be shared, and divided it into 2 bowls.

Cream of mushroom soup

I had the Mushroom risotto which I enjoyed.

#1 had the Barramundi with white bean puree sauce and it was perfectly done.

I have to say that I had a lovely day out with #1. I’m really thankful that the other kids are independent enough that I am able to spend a day out without having to worry about them. I also realise that I have to make a greater effort to spend more one-on-one time with each of them, even the less demanding ones who see that I’m so busy and don’t ask for it. Because these are the little special times that form good memories of their childhood (ok, theoretically she’s not a child anymore). It’s also a great opportunity to give them our undivided attention and to connect with them without the interruption of the other kids.

Sane tip: I love such laid back quiet places, and the food here is really quite good.

Save tip: I have the American Express platinum card, and it has an embedded Palate dining privilege, so we get 50% off at certain establishments when 2 people dine. The bill came up to $60+ after the discount. I think it was well worth the wonderful quiet time I had with my eldest where we could chat in a beautiful setting 🙂
